However, I don’t really feel stereotyped [as an African American actress], because I haven’t done anything that I feel is stereotypical. In my 30+ year career I’ve been fortunate not to have to do anything I’ve been ashamed of doing. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to do things that people admired and liked, which gave me a voice, because I was believed to be a good person, which I am. this morning i decided to wear these jeans i bought in paris six years ago that i never wear, because why not?

last night whilst reveling in my own company, i started to wonder, as i do often, if one should be as comfortable and seemingly happy spending so much time on one’s own as i am. like, perhaps i shouldn’t enjoy spending the weekend in my apartment watching ‘martin’ and playing pokémon as much as i do? maybe if i had a boyfriend to stay in with, it’d be more socially valid… but fuck that noise, right? idk, i’m conflicted.

on that hypothetical boyfriend: despite how spectacularly bad my dating life was in twelve, i’ve my crosshairs trained on a new, beautiful mark. because clearly i never learn. guess i’ll let you know how that turns out…

Hidden in the Open: A Photographic Essay of 140-Years of Black Male Couples

Historian Trent Kelly has collected 146 rare vintage photographs of black male couples from the past 150 years.

Although the large majority of the pictures depict gay couples, the collection also includes images of families and friends but they all have one thing in common: they capture images of love.

Below is a snippet of why Kelly started the collection along with a few photos from his archive.

“Historically, the Afro American gay male and couple has largely been defined by everyone but themselves. Afro American gay men are ignored into nonexistence in parts of black culture and are basically second class citizens in gay culture. The black church which has historically played a fundamental role in protesting against civil injustices toward its parishioners has been want to deny its gay members their right to live a life free and open without prejudice. Despite public projections of a “rainbow” community living together in harmonious co-habitation, openly active and passive prejudices exist in the larger gay community against gay Afro Americans.”

Can you imagine a “good male character who just happens to be wearing sexually exploitative outfits because he’s ok with his masculinity?” Constantly has the camera pan lovingly over his asscrack and firm glutes, and big ole dangly ballsack that is totes sweaty from all this MMA and soldiering. Time to hit the showers, and do you, personally, think it’s ok to have a long slow pan up the dude’s package (indiscreetly hidden in a jock of course), to his chiseled physique and erect nipples (pierced). He’s not even a Bond-esque confident man, he’s basically a weird Bowie caricature that’s constantly having near-dickslips in every single cinematic as the completely nonsexualized female characters do their business of being gruff and shooting dudes and advancing the plot.
